At a workers’ convention in Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), expressed his concerns about the traditional politics in Pakistan, which he considers detrimental to the nation’s progress.

He termed the current style of politics as the country’s “worst enemy,” emphasizing the need for a radical change in political strategies and direction.

Bilawal stressed the importance of moving towards “new politics,” a term he used to describe a forward-thinking, progressive approach that addresses current and future challenges of the country rather than dwelling on past political practices. He criticized veteran politicians for being stuck in the past and failing to address the present and future needs of Pakistan.

Modern Political Approach

The PPP leader highlighted the benefits of modern-day politics, advocating for a transformative approach that considers present realities and future possibilities instead of being anchored in the past. According to Bilawal, this approach is essential for overcoming various national crises.

In the context of the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 8 next year, Bilawal pointed out the shifting political alliances, particularly referring to the PML-N and its consolidation of support from various political entities. He criticized the PML-N and its potential prime ministerial candidate without naming Nawaz Sharif directly.

Bilawal also touched upon Nawaz Sharif’s return to Pakistan after a four-year self-imposed exile and his uncertain political future due to existing legal challenges, including disqualification from holding public office.

Bilawal expressed concern over Pakistan’s current economic situation, marked by historic inflation, poverty, and unemployment. He emphasized that the PPP’s competition is with these economic issues and not just with other political parties.

Bilawal affirmed their continued relevance in the current economic context by responding to criticisms about the party’s traditional slogans and manifesto. He argued that these slogans still resonate with the struggles faced by the country.

Asserting the PPP’s preparedness for the upcoming elections, Bilawal conveyed confidence in the party’s success. He anticipates victories for PPP candidates in the positions of prime minister and chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He announced that the party would soon kick off its election campaign, expecting a win in the polls.
