Sharjeel Memon Urges Against 2018’s Election Tactics for 2024 Polls

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and former Information Minister of Sindh, Sharjeel Inam Memon, warned Pakistan’s influential power circles to avoid replicating the political manoeuvrings of the 2018 election in the upcoming 2024 polls.

Sharjeel Inam Memon’s reference was to the events of 2018 when, as alleged by the PPP leader, these power circles had thrown their support behind Imran Khan, the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), aiding in his election as the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

The PPP leader’s cautionary statement implies a critique of the political dynamics in Pakistan, where external influences, often from powerful establishments, are accused of swaying electoral outcomes.

In 2018, it was widely speculated and accused by opposition parties, including PPP, that certain establishments had covertly supported Imran Khan and PTI, thereby influencing the democratic process. These allegations have been disputed and debated within Pakistan’s political landscape.

By highlighting this issue, the PPP leader advocates for a more transparent and fair election process 2024. The aim is to ensure that the electoral process remains free from undue influence and manipulation, preserving the democratic integrity of Pakistan’s political system. This statement also reflects the ongoing political rivalry and differences between the PPP, one of Pakistan’s oldest and most established political parties, and PTI, a relatively newer party that rose to prominence in the past decade.

The leader’s remarks are a call for fair elections and an attempt to mobilize public and political opinion against potential undemocratic practices. By bringing attention to the events of 2018, the PPP is possibly trying to galvanize its supporters and other democratic forces in the country to remain vigilant and active in safeguarding the electoral process in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
