The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has unveiled plans to announce the Hajj policy for 2024 within the next fortnight. Notably, this policy introduces a significant change, allowing women to undertake the Hajj pilgrimage without being accompanied by a mahram (a close male relative).

The policy revision awaits the federal cabinet’s endorsement, expected in about 10 days, after which the subsequent year’s Hajj application process will commence.

Crescent Moon Sighting: Stricter Regulations Introduced

The ministry has laid down stringent guidelines regarding the proclamation of the crescent moon’s sighting. According to these updated rules, the announcement prerogative rests solely with the Ruet-e-Hilal committee, sidelining any private committees from making such declarations.

Aneeq Ahmed, the Caretaker Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, previously conveyed that the Saudi Arabian government is committed to offering augmented amenities and superior services to Pakistani pilgrims during Hajj 2024.

The pledge encompasses lodging, culinary provisions, and transport improvements to ensure a seamless pilgrimage experience. Echoing this commitment, Dr Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah, the Saudi Minister for Hajj and Umrah, reiterated Saudi Arabia’s dedication to fostering cooperation with Pakistan. He accentuated the Saudi government’s proactive measures to enhance the comfort and convenience of Pakistani pilgrims.
