With summer approaching, Pakistan’s rising demand for solar panels has led to a price surge, affecting consumer finances. Solar panel costs have jumped significantly, ranging from Rs75,000 to Rs300,000.
For example, the price of a seven-kilowatt system rose from Rs850,000 to over Rs920,000. Ten and 12-kilowatt systems now cost Rs1.25 million and Rs1.6 million, respectively, marking notable increases. A 15-kilowatt system experienced a Rs300,000 rise and is now priced at Rs1.8 million.
This increase mainly impacts grid-connected systems, including those requiring batteries for storage. Rising solar panel costs notably burden those in the government’s net metering project, which compensates for excess solar-generated electricity.
Economic shifts, political instability, and factors like brand and efficiency contribute to price volatility. Amid these hikes, stakeholders explore solutions to alleviate consumer pressures and advance sustainable energy in Pakistan.
