Over 30 candidates have died while waiting for local government elections in Sindh’s Karachi and Hyderabad districts.
According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) sources, the local government election in these 45 districts will be held later.
The second round of the local election has been postponed since July 2022 and is scheduled to be held on January 15.
Out of 19,867, 604 candidates for union committee, town council, and district council seats in Karachi and Hyderabad were elected unopposed.
According to the ECP, the 16 deceased candidates from Karachi had applied for chairman and vice chairman, and the rest were running for general member seats; five general members and one chairman candidate were elected in Karachi’s Malir, East, and Keamari districts, and the rest general members, town councilor, and district member seats in Hyderabad districts.
