Sheikh Rashid, a former interior minister, has yet another case filed against him for meddling in government affairs at a police station in Murree.
The former minister was detained from the Murree Motorway early on Thursday (February 2). Former premier Imran Khan expressed his disapproval of the arrest.
Ashiq Ali, an investigation officer from the Aabpara police station in Islamabad, filed the first information report (FIR) in response to the complaint. In the FIR, Sheikh Rashid allegedly threatened the police officers and said he would not spare them.
Sheikh Rashid was accused of meddling in official matters and putting up a fight when being arrested in the FIR, which was filed by Section 154 of the Pakistani Criminal Procedure Code. According to the FIR, the former minister verbally and physically abused the police officers while holding a gun to their heads and threatening them with dire consequences.
Along with the former minister, the case also involves his two employees.
The FIR claims that when the police arrived at Sheikh Rashid’s home, he emerged with his armed servants and resisted their efforts while threatening them. As a result, according to the FIR, he was informed that he was charged with three offenses under the Pakistan Penal Code: 505 (statements encouraging public mischief), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), and 120B (criminal conspiracy).
Then, while holding them at gunpoint and posing as a threat, he began to oppose and meddle in the police’s business.
According to the FIR, Sheikh Rashid abused the police officers and threatened to kill them, claiming he had served as a minister on numerous occasions. As a result, he broke Sections 506ii (threats to cause death or great bodily harm), 353 (use of force or violence against a public servant to prevent him from performing his duties), and 186 (obstructing a public servant from performing his duties).
