The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) yesterday urged all taxpayers to file income tax returns by Nov 21 (electronically/manually) to avoid penalty.
FBR Spokesman Shahid Husain Asad said that after due date non-filers would be issued notices for levy of penalty. The minimum amount of penalty is Rs20,000, he added.
The tax department has extended the last date three times, with November 21 as last extension for filing of income tax returns for the tax year 2014.
He further said that in genuine needs the taxpayers may obtain extension for filing of returns up to 15 days from their relevant income tax commissioners.
For facilitating filing of returns, the office timings of all tax departments were extended on the last date.
An official statement issued said that all Inland Revenue offices will remain open till 8pm on the last date for receipt of manually filed income tax returns.
The FBR has established 200 tax facilitation kiosks/centres throughout the country on important public places where maximum number of taxpayers can avail the facility.
