Authorities have blocked around 40 million unverified Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards across the country, Radio Pakistan reported earlier today.
This information was given during a meeting of the Senate s standing committee on information technology and telecommunication which met in Islamabad with Senator Idrees Khan Safi in the chair.
Minister of State for IT and Telecommunications Anusha Rehman urged legislation against cyber crimes and said all efforts would be made to block unverified mobile SIMs.
Illegal SIM cards pose a serious threat to country s security as they are routinely being used in criminal and terrorist activities, such as terror attacks and kidnappings for ransom etc.
