A youth, Zakria who was shot dead by police on Friday, has denied his involvement in street crime.
Ahsan, one of the complaints in a series of cases registered into the alleged robbery and ensuing shootout, said he was out along with his friends when he (Zakaria) and his accomplice robbed them of mobile phones and cash.
He said he has identified the deceased as robber who deprived him and his friends of mobile phones and cash before being chased and killed by the law enforcers.
Ahsan while talking to local news channel Samaa Tv “He (Zakaria) came up came with his accomplice riding a bike in Khayaban Rahat, where I was hanging out with my friends. He fled after snatching three mobile phones and cash,”
The complainant said he informed the police about the robbery. Zakaria, he said, was killed in an exchange of fire with police after the bike he and his accomplice were riding fell during the course of pursuit.
Ahsan further said mobile and cash looted by the suspects were also returned to them by police. Police are said to have registered four cases in relation to the incident that involves robbery and shooting.
Later, talking to media when he was asked whether he identified the body as that of the robber who snatched mobile phones and cash, he said : “No I don’t know, sir. Thank you,”.
A case of robbery has been lodged on behalf of Ahsan while an FIR of police encounter was registered on behalf of Sub-Inspector Deen Muhammad.
Police must have chased the suspects for over an hour before killing Zakraia and injuring his accomplice in an exchange of fire as according to the FIR robbery took place at 9:45 pm while the shootout occurred at 11:00 pm
