The transgender people earlier on Monday took to the streets in Mansehra against the attack on their community member and demanded the early arrest and punishment of the gunmen.
The rally began from outside the Mansehra Press Club and ended outside the urban police station after passing through various roads.
Three armed men had fired gunshots at Kashi Chan in her Mohallah Ayub house here and fled.
Having received bullet injuries, the transgender was rushed to the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital from where doctors referred her to the Ayub Medical Complex in Abbottabad in critical condition.
Also on Monday, Hazara Shemale Association president Maria Khan and secretary general Nadra Khan demanded the immediate arrest of attackers.
Maria Khan told reporters at the Mansehra Press Club that the police were formally informed about the possible attacks on the transgender in the district after killing of a community member in Peshawar but the police didn’t act accordingly and thus, leading to a gun attack on Kashi Chan, who was on death bed.
She said some people made sexual advances towards the transgender, who on resistance received death threats and attacks.
Maria Khan alleged that the main accused in the attack case attacked Kashi Chan after refusing sex.
Nadra Khan said neither the federal nor the provincial government was serious about providing security to her community.
“We want the immediate arrest of attackers otherwise we will take to the streets first in the province and then across the country,” she warned.
The transgender said it was unfortunate that when Kashi Chand was targeted at home, neither the police nor the local residents came to her help.
She said the government should legislate for the security of her community members attacks on whom were on the rise.
Nadra Khan said the city police had lodged FIR against the main accused and his two accomplices but they all were at large.
