The inaugural ceremony of a month-long Chinese language teaching course was held on Monday at Area Study Centre Far East and Southeast Asia, University of Sindh.
The Vice-Chancellor of University of Sindh Prof. Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro who was the chief guest while expressing his views said that proficiency in a language constituted immense personal power in these times of increasing human communication and shrinking physical distances, brought about by digital and technological revolution.
Dr. Kalhoro said that University of Sindh deserved applause in being the first public sector university to have initiated a formal teaching course in Chinese language.
He observed that learning Chinese language will greatly benefit advanced level students of University of Sindh in the wake of abundant and incessant scholarship and job market opportunities being offered to Pakistani youth by the government of People’s Republic of China.
While eulogizing the role of China towards development of Pakistan, he said China had always been Pakistan’s trusted and time-tested friend.
He made a special reference to China’s monumental help to Pakistan in mega projects like construction of Shahrah-e-Karakorum in the past and China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and modernization and renovation of Karachi city in the present times.
He said that Pakistan has also stood by China through every thick and thin situation. Dr. Kalhoro remarked that University of Sindh was eagerly looking forwards further academic and professional linkages with Chinese institutions, and that it would also welcome more such initiatives in the due course of time.
He thanked Chinese government, its Consulate General in Karachi and Zhejiang Normal University, China to have facilitated arrangement of this course.
Dr. Jing-ShengXuan, Associate Professor, Zhejiang Normal University, China and the facilitator of the course observed that he was extremely grateful to University of Sindh and Area Study Centre for hosting this course.
He also expressed hope that the course participants will find the course input immensely advantageous in their present and future academic and professional contexts.
Among others, Prof. Dr. Abdullah Dayo, Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy and Prof. Dr. Hammadullah Kakepoto also shared their views on the occasion. (APP)
