Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf leader, Dr Shireen Mazari, has confirmed that she will be approaching the special ombudsman for harassment of women at the workplace, and will file a petition against Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, who verbally abused her in the National Assembly last week.
On Wednesday, Asif ridiculed Mazari for her appearance and voice, referring to her as a ‘tractor trolley’.
Dr Mazari, on Sunday said that she was preparing her petition. She further stated that her lawyer Barrister Shoaib was also looking into filing a defamation suit against the minister. “We will use all legal avenues,” she added.
Irfan Qadir, former auditor general, commented that it was a first impression and such a case proceeding from the parliament had never come to the Supreme Court before. He said that the case would be a test for the Supreme Court. Given that Dr Mazari is a career politician who goes to the National Assembly as one of her workplaces, the legality for harassment at the workplace holds for her, Qadir said.
