The Sindh High Court (SHC) has set March 15 for hearing the Rs. 200 million defamation suit, filed by the paramilitary Sindh Rangers against MQM nominee for Karachi mayor Waseem Akhtar.
Today, counsel of Waseem Aktar, Mahfooz Yar Khan Advocate submitted his power of attorney before the court.
The SHC, while giving the time to MQM leader’s counsel for filing reply, set March 15 for hearing the case.
Sindh Rangers Sindh had sent a legal notice to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Waseem Akhtar for what the spokesman say ‘leveling false and baseless allegation against the paramilitary force during a TV talk show’.
The Rangers spokesman said Akhtar, in a television talk show aired on September 29, had accused the Rangers of stealing hides of sacrificial animals and involvement in extra-constitutional activities.
The spokesman termed the allegations leveled by the MQM leader as an attempt to tarnish the image of the paramilitary force.
“The legal notice was sent to Waseem Akhtar under section 8 of Defamation Ordinance 2002”, the spokesman added.
