The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued orders to police and excise authorities to seal all liquor shops across the province with immediate effect.
The high court was disposing off two legal petitions, seeking closure of illegal liquor shops in the province. SHC also ordered the authorities to issue fresh licenses after detailed scrutiny and that a code of conduct be formulated in this regard
In today’s hearing, the court directed DG Excise and Taxation and Inspector General Sindh Police to immediate implement orders and ensure that all liquor shops are closed.
IG Sindh directed all DIGs to implement the orders in all districts concerned and issue a report in this regard today. He also directed SSPs to order their SHOs in this regard, saying any laxity in this regard will not be tolerated.
The SHC also ruled that licences issued to all liquor shops be cancelled and wine shops be closed today.
During the proceedings, bishop Karachi, Sikh and Hindu leaders told the court that religion doesn’t allow consuming alcohol. At this the court said that if no religion allows that, then licenses of all liquor ships in the province be revoked today.
