Karachi: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday barred senior officers of Karachi police from performing duties over torture of masked police commandos on journalists within court premises on Saturday.

In the incident, the masked and armed policemen arrested former Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza’s guards before turning to journalists covering the violent episode inside the court building.

Today, a two-member bench of the SHC heard the case pertaining to contempt of court and torture on media persons.

IG Sindh Police Ghulam Haider Jamali, AIG Karachi Ghulam Qadir Thebo and Chief Secretary Sindh personally appeared before the bench that expressed its resentment on IG over the incident, saying that it was an attack on court that would not be tolerated.

After hearing the police officials, the court barred Ghulam Qadir Thebo, DIG South Feroz Shah and SSP South Chaudhry Asad from performing duties till next orders.
