Karachi: Sindh Rangers released Babar Chughtai, former Chairman of Association of Builders and Developers of Pakistan (ABAD), a spokesman said on Tuesday.
Chughtai was arrested earlier this month on suspicion of involvement in targeted killing and land grabbing. His arrest had drawn strong criticism from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
In a press statement, MQM’s Rabita Committee had called for immediate release of Chughtai and end to what it called “victimization of its workers and sympathizers.”
Rangers produced Chughtai before an anti-terrorism court (ATC) and got his 90-day custody.
According to the Ranger’s statement, Chughtai has been released, but he cannot leave Karachi without the knowledge of law enforcement agencies.
