Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Wednesday approved the much-awaited Rapid Transport System for the country’s commercial hub Karachi.
The PM said the new transport system would be named ‘Green Line’. He said the federal government would provide Rs 15 billion for the project while the remaining expense for the project will be borne by Sindh Government and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.
He announced this during a high-level meeting the in the provincial capital of Sindh. The premier arrived in the city to review law and order situation.
PM Sharif also directed authorities concerned to start work on the project immediately. He said if even Sindh didn’t contribute its share, the federal government will bear full cost of the project.
The bus service will run from Surjani Town to Tower for which a special elevated corridor will be built covering around 25.5 kilometers. More than 3,50,000 people will be able to benefit from the planned transport facility in Karachi.
The project shares the same characteristics as that of Lahore Metro Bus Service.
