The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has partially resumed flight operations after a strike that continued for 6 days straight.
According sources, two PIA planes have reached Jeddah to bring back 800 Umrah pilgrims stranded in Saudi Arabia over past few days. The pilgrims will land in Islamabad.
Flight operation in other cities, including Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Gilgit will be resumed in a day.
In a statement this morning, the PIA spokesman regretted inconvenience caused to all passengers due to the strike which he called ‘illegal’.
According to Civil Aviation sources, PIA staffers are coming back to their duties. They said that 400 Umrah pilgrims will be brought back through Saudi Airlines.
On the other hand, talks between the PIA workers and federal government failed to yield any breakthrough as both the sides remained stick to their stances.
The PIA’s Joint Action Committee has given a 36-hour ultimatum to government to meet its demands, with protest continued against the airline’s proposed privatization.
