The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) earlier yesterday launched a drive to ensure hygiene at sweet shops in the provincial capital of Lahore, sealing various outlets and imposing stiff fine on others.
The drive was apparently launched after the death of many people in Layyah due to consumption of poisonous sweetmeats.
According to a spokesperson, a PFA team, headed by Director (Operations) Ayesha Mumtaz, sealed Baba-Jee Inayat Sweets in Begum Kot for flouting hygiene standards and regulations. It also sealed Shahbaz Restaurant in the same area.
Other PFA teams sealed Bukhari Nan Shop and Khurram Sweets in Samanabad. The officials also imposed fine on Usama Foods, Malik Sweets and Bhai Jan Sweets in the areas of Kot Lakhpat and Lohari Gate.
