Two-minute silence was observed Friday to pay tribute to Australian batsman Phillip Hughes before the start of 2nd day’s play of 3rd Test match between Pakistan and New Zealand.
Team players, match officials and referees wearing black armbands lined up at Sharjah cricket ground to pay respect to 25-year-old Hughes who got injured and subsequently died yesterday in Sydney after being hit on the base of his skull by a rising ball during a domestic match.
Yesterday, the cricket boards of Pakistan and New Zealand decided to suspend second day’s play to pay tributes to Hughes.
Pakistan resumed the inning at 281-3 with opener Mohammad Hafeez on an unbeaten 178 – his seventh Test hundred and second in the series – as Pakistan dominated the first day after winning a crucial toss and deciding to bat on a flat, grass-less Sharjah stadium pitch.
