Rawalpindi: Pakistan Army Eleven beat Pakistan Eleven by six wickets in a friendly T20 cricket match here at GHQ stadium Rawalpindi on the occasion of Independence Day.
Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif inaugurated the match that was played to express solidarity with all those who sacrificed their lives for Pakistan.
Gen Raheel inaugurated the match hitting boundary off a ball bowled by Pakistan T20 captain Shahid Afridi, who was also leading Pakistan Army XI. The COAS was the chief guest on the occasion.
The income generated from the event will go as proceeds for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the country.
Pakistan XI, captained by former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq, batted first.
