The Pak Army announced today that all 10 terrorists who were behind Oct 2012 attack on teenage education campaigner Malala Yousufzai have been arrested.
Addressing a press conference, Director General ISPR Maj-Gen Asim Bajwa said: “a 10-member group belonging to banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was behind the attack on Malala Yousufzai and her freinds Kainat and Shazia.”
He said that two terrorists first identified Malala and then shot her in the head on Oct 9, 2012. Kainat and Shazia were injured in the shooting.
Group member Israr ur Rehman had confessed to his involvement in the assault and later on his identification, nine remaining members of the group were apprehended through a joint operation.
“It was an intelligence based joint operation conducted by ISI, police and military,” he said. “The group was led by Zafar Iqbal, an owner of a furniture shop of Swat. He was in contact with TTP head Mulla Fazlullah, who was operating from Kunar province of Afghanistan.”
Bajwa said that “all 10 members of Shura are residents of Malakand”. He revealed that the group had a list to target 22 prominent figures of Swat. “The detained terrorists will be produced before an anti-terror court,, he added.
