Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali today proposed for a judicial commission to investigate allegations levelled by Aitzaz Ahasn and said “Ahsan’s address should be considered an FIR and he should himself propose names of the judges for the proposed tribunal to launch an impartial inquiry”.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Nisar said “My statement was a response to an attack towards me and It is a normal practice to respond to statements It is my democratic and political right to respond”.
While clarifying his position he said “I did not criticise the PPP or the opposition. A member of the opposition criticised me and I responded. If allegations levelled against me are even one percent true I will not only resign from the ministry but from politics”.
Nisar said a probe should be held into what was said about him and his brother. “Their nominated commission/tribunal should probe these allegations.”
“I forgive and forget yesterday’s events in Parliament,” said Nisar.
I have been standing with the same party for 30 hours despite up and downs. My basis for loyalty to the PML-N is that I am critical of the party.
As per the desire of Prime Minister, party and senior leaders, I have decided to ignore Ahsan’s allegations for the sake of Pakistan’s democracy and parliament, he said. “I have taken the decision to set aside my self-respect and ignore yesterday’s events.”
Nisar said that he got messages from across Pakistan to show patience as Pakistani politics, democracy and parliament were passing through a critical time.
