Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali on Sunday announced a new Exit Control List (ECL) policy regarding placing people’s names on the ECL.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Chaudhry Nisar said that the government was removing 52, 000 people from the ECL and it not a joke.
He further added that people are being barred to fly abroad over petty domestic issues.
There was no rule or policy for putting people on the no-fly list, he said, lamenting that a respectable person with military background had been on the ECL since 1980s.
Unveiling the new policy, he said that people would be placed on the ECL only on the recommendations of defence institutions, intelligence agencies, high courts and Supreme Court.
The interior minister said that people who would be deported to Pakistan would be ineligible to apply for a new passport for a period of five years.
