A man was injured in a bear attack in Mahandri Bachla village in Mansehra earlier yesterday.
A police official said, 70-year-old Waliur Rehman was in a field in the village when he was attacked by a wild bear.
“The villagers heard his screams, rushed to the field and rescued him,” he said.
According to the police, Rehman received critical wounds on his neck, face, arms and hands. He was shifted to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital in Mansehra. A hospital official said the 70-year-old was in a stable condition.
As per locals, bears and leopards often move into the village in search of food and attack villagers and their cattle.
They requested officials of the wildlife department to take measures to protect villagers from bear attacks
A large number of people were injured after being attacked by bears in Mansehra district. On November 8, 2015, three people were injured after being attacked by bears in separate incidents in Kaghan Valley. On October 20, 2015, a minor was wounded in a bear attack in a village in Jabar Devli union council of Mansehra.
In June 2015, two shepherds and four cattle were injured when a bear attacked them in Kaghan Valley.
The region has a large number of grey and black bears who usually make their way down to populated areas during winter or if they are searching for food. These bears often end up attacking villagers and cattle.
