Police earlier today claimed to have killed seven militants, including a local Al Qaeda commander, during an encounter in Karachi.
Officials said the law-enforcers conducted an intelligence-driven raid in Madina Colony of Sohrab Goth locality during which terrorists opened fire on the police party.
SSP Malir, Rao Anwar, said that the police returned fire and killed seven of the terrorists including their commander who was identified as Pervaiz.
He claimed that all the militants were associated with Al Qaida.
The senior police officer said arms and explosives were also recovered from the terrorists who, according to him, were plotting a sabotage activity in Karachi.
Police and paramilitary Rangers have intensified their anti-terrorist operation in Karachi as part of countrywide crackdown against militants following Dec. 16 attack on army school in Peshawar and large numbers of them have been killed so far.
