LHC nulls Absar Alam’s appointment as PEMRA chairman LHC nulls Absar Alam’s appointment as PEMRA chairman

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has nullified the appointment of Absar Alam as chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulation Authority (PEMRA).

Justice Shahid Karim announced the decision on the petition filed, Munir Ahmed, who plead that Alam’s appointment as PEMRA chief was done out of the way and he did not fulfill the criteria and is misusing his position by pursuing the agenda of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz,.

The petitioner also plead that the judgments of the Supreme Court barred contractual appointments on permanent posts, whereas the appointment of Absar Alam was made as acting chairman of PEMRA.

On Nov 29, the court had reserved the verdict on the petition challenging the appointment.
