At least three policemen were injured when a suicide bomber exploded himself while trying to enter Khanpur Imambargah during Eid prayers on Tuesday.
IG Sindh while talking to local news channel said Another suicide bomber is injured in the explosion and has been arrested with the help of people.
According to details, policemen posted at Imambargah for security challenged the suicide bombers when they were trying to sneak into the crowd gathered for prayers.
Injured policemen were in critical condition and have been shifted to the hospital.
CM Murad Ali Shah reached the blast site soon after the incident and reviewed the situation. While talking to newsmen, he reaffirmed the commitment to root out militancy from the country.
AFP adds:
“Four of our men are injured of whom one is critical” Umar Tufail, a senior local police officer told AFP.
Tufail added doctors were also trying to save the life of the other suspected bomber, who was injured when the first one blew himself up but failed to detonate himself.
“The attackers came as the worshippers were gathering to offer Eid prayers. Police were able to stop him at the gate outside the mosque,” A.D. Khawaja, chief of police for Sindh province said.
Worshippers overpowered the second would-be suicide bomber as the police were reeling from their injuries, he added.
