The citizens of twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi Friday demanded of the quarters concerned to start an awareness drive to stop young motor-bikers from violating traffic rules on busy roads.
They said the young and under-age motorbike users have become the nuisance for other motorists during rush-hours at busy roads as their traffic violations may lead to a serious accidents.
They said many motorbike users use wrong lanes of major roads, which are not allocated for them. They use fast-lanes, which are only allowed for motor-cars for over-taking or used for a short time.
“Due to wrong riding of young motor-bikers, many citizens face untoward situation while using roads. They abruptly come to the wrong lane and some times hit the bumpers of motor-cars,” Zahoor Ahmad, a motorist said.
“I have to replace my car bumper besides receiving scratches on car body several times due to the wrong driving of young motor-bikers in fast-lane of main roads of twin cities like Expressway and Kashmir Highway. ”
Aftab Qureshi, another car user said, “This is very unfortunate and life-threatening, which needs proper attention of the traffic wardens who are deployed on major roads to stop this routine practice of the motor-bikers.”
Adnan Malik, a resident of Media Town said, “Almost daily in evening time, some young-motor-bikers in a group start using busy road without helmets and they remain in fast-lane creating disturbance for other four-wheel-drives.
“This is happening on regular basis but traffic police seems helpless to stop these violators who are not actually playing with their own lives but with other road users too, even in the presence of traffic wardens.”
Salim Khan, a citizen suggested the Islamabad Traffic Police to educate such traffic rules violators, who are becoming a threat to road users by starting a regular awareness drive besides imposing heavy fines on them to discourage this practice.
When contacted an official of Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) said the ITP has already stared awareness drive to educate the road users.
He said further steps will be taken to educate motorbike users, who use wrong lanes of major roads of twin cities.
He said the ITP during its on-going drive has imposed heavy fines on violation of traffic rules by under-age and young motobikers. (APP)
