Dr Manoj Kumar, a Hindu doctor from Quetta, was released in the Hazarganji area late yesterday night after almost two months in captivity.
SSP Operations Quetta Aetizaz Goraya told the media that the doctor had been released after his family paid ransom to the captors.
Dr Kumar, a medical officer at the District Headquarters Hospital Dadhar, was kidnapped on December 2 by unidentified assailants.
The kidnappers freed the doctor in a desolated place in Hazarganji, according to family sources.
Initially, the kidnappers demanded Rs50 million as ransom for his safe release; however, the amount was decreased later.
“The kidnappers later demanded Rs30 million,” family sources said, adding that they were eventually ”paid around Rs15 million.”
Addressing the media after his release, Dr. Kumar said he was not provided proper food and was repeatedly beaten during his captivity.
