He was presiding over the board of governors meeting of the college at CM House earlier today. Shah is also the patron-in-chief of the college.
The college is being built at a cost of Rs1.5billion, said Shah, sharing that he wished that the college becomes one of the best institutions in Asia. “This is why the project has been handed over to Corps Commander, Karachi, Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar,” he claimed.
Briefing about the project, GOC Major General Shahzad Naeem said the college is spread over 100 acres and is located at a distance of 30 kilometres from the Jinnah Terminal.
The campus will include an administration block, two academic blocks, hostels, cadet messes, swimming pool, staff club, badminton and tennis courts, canteen, mosque, parade ground, shooting range, cricket and football grounds and a residential complex.
According to Naeem, over 80% of construction has been completed. He added the advertisement for hiring of the principal has also been published. The Corps Commander said the process of finalising the staff will be completed by the end of April. “I want to start the college with 60 cadets initially, though it has the capacity of 300 cadets,” he said. The project will be fully complete in the next five years, he added.
The college would have special security arrangements, for which a comprehensive plan has been devised, said Mukhtar. The CM said he would provide funds for the entire project, including security measures, without any delay. The meeting was also attended by education minister Nisar Khuhro, chief secretary Siddique Memon, secretaries of education and finance, and Brigadier Mazhar Iqbal Kyani.
