Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ebad Khan has directed for foolproof security arrangements and provision of all facilities to the buyers and sellers of sacrificial animals at the Central Cattle Mandi at Superhighway.
This he directed while presiding over a meeting to review arrangements for Cattle Mandi at Super highway here Tuesday at Governor House.
Commissioner Karachi, Acting Station Commander Malir, Secretary Governor Sindh, Secretary Home, Secretary Local Government, Secretary Live stock, Officers of KMC, Police, Traffic Police, KW&SB and other departments also attended the meeting.
Governor Sindh further directed to ensure regular daily spray and vaccination of animals to control the threat of Congo virus and other diseases.
Governor Sindh also directed concerned authorities for constant patrolling around the mandi and posting of city wardens to thwart the menace of street crimes.
Proper lighting, availability of water, public toilets, bank counters and veterinary doctors should also be ensured at the Cattle Mandi, he further directed.
He said that no mandi should be allowed without an NOC from concerned authorities anywhere in the city so as to avoid congestion in areas and localities.
Sellers bring sacrificial animals from various parts of the country to this mandi and as such it was the responsibility of concerned quarters to ensure all possible facilities to them including adequate security arrangements, he added.
He said that people from all corners of the city come to this Mandi to buy sacrificial animal, so there was a need for proper traffic management in and around the mandi, specially keeping in view the construction work of Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway M-9, to avoid traffic jam and congestion.
He also directed to rectify the shortcoming experienced during last year´s arrangements. The number of veterinary doctors and paramedics should be increased and directed Secretary Live stock to prepare a working papers for hiring veterinary doctors on contact for a specific period. He also directed KMC to supplement the efforts of livestock department by posing corporation doctors there.
About inadequate lighting arrangements around the streets leading to mandi, Governor Sindh asked KMC and Local Government Department to ensure the same at an earliest so as to provide security to buyers and avoid looting incidents due to darkness there.
Acting Station Director Malir Brig. Qasim informed Governor Sindh that the Mandi would be operative from 7th August to 14th September 2016. He said that adequate Secretary arrangements have been made for buyers and sellers inside the facility while same are being ensured outside with the help of Police and Rangers.
Secretary Livestock informed Governor Sindh that 12 doctors and 80 paramedics are stationed at the mandi every year but this number was very less as more than 1 million animals are brought there. (PPI)
