Peshawar: At least three persons sustained critical bullet injuries when rivals started indiscriminate firing on opponents outside the polling station in Kohat on Saturday.
According to police, the incident occurred outside Mirzwali polling station in Kohat where opponents came face to face and started firing on each other after exchanging harsh words.
As a result, three persons injured and was shifted to the hospital.
The identity of the victims and motive behind the incident could not be immediately ascertained. Police rushed to the spot and controlled the situation.
Meanwhile, polling in Union Council Rashakai, district Nowshera was suspended after the putting of ballot papers on fire by the workers of different political parties over alleged rigging.
Talking to media persons, Deputy Commissioner (DC)/District Returning Officer, Zakaullah Khan said that polling at Rashakai Union Council has been suspended for some time after the supporters of candidates clashed over the allegations of rigging and later putting the ballot papers on fire.
He said that the law-enforcement agencies and local police have been called in for security and help of polling staff.
Polling for the Local Government Elections was also stopped at village council No 3 Union Council (UC) Amankot here Saturday due to non printing of election symbol of the district council member on ballot papers.
Over 600 candidates are in the run for the district and Tehsil councils where 678 polling stations have been set up for 649,477 registered voters including 290,446 female and 359,031 male.
