The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday directed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan to appear before the Regional Election Commissioner/ District Returning Officer Bye-Election NA-154 Lodhran-I in person or through a counsel on Sunday (February 11) for violation of code of conduct for political parties and candidates for conduct of bye-election in NA-154 Lodhran-I.
According to ECP, a notice was issued by the Commission to Imran Khan Niazi and three other members of the National Assembly (MNAs) to explain their position with regard to violation of code of conduct and as to why the case of violating the directives may not be sent to the Election Commission for initiating proper proceedings against them under the provision of law.
It said that the monitoring teams of the ECP and media reports had confirmed that Imran Khan Niazi, Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Murad Saeed, and Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed addressed the party workers at Fiber Cotton Factory, Adda Piplawala, Multan-Bahawalpur Road, Lodhran, which was a glaring and blatant violation of the code of conduct.
It was also violation of the directives issued by the ECP, and as such, was liable to be proceeded against under the relevant provision of laws in vogue on that count as referred, the ECP added. (APP)
