An accountability court formally indicted former petroleum minister Dr. Asim Hussain in a case of corruption as well as money laundering.
Dr. Asim Hussain was produced by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) authorities in the accountability court Karachi where charge-sheet of Rs.462 billion rupees corruption, money laundering and misuse of land of a trust was presented against him.
In the charge-sheet it is stated, that as a petroleum minister Asim created artificial shortage of the gas and misled the Council of Common Interest (CCI) that led to increase in rates of fertilizer and caused Rs.450 billion loss to national exchequer from 2012 to 2013.
In response, Dr Asim denied the charges, claiming that they are ‘politically-motivated’.
Dr. Asim after the hearing while speaking to media said “These are false and concocted charges. I don’t accept any of these allegations… This is a political case to victimize me and I’m a political inmate,”
The charge-sheet also included that Dr. Asim acquired illegal contracts and illegal land worth billions of rupees to build Zia Uddin Hospital in Karachi.
