A solid batting display by batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan helped Sri Lanka thrash England by 157 runs in the second one day international at Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street yesterday.
England won the toss and elected to field first.
Invited to bat first, Sri Lanka made 256 runs in their fifty overs. Tillakaratne Dilshan was the stand out player for the visitors as he scored 88 (101). Ashan Priyanjan made 43 (33) whereas Kumar Sangakkara contributed 40 (67) runs.
Harry Gurney took three wickets for England and James Anderson dismissed two batsmen. Chris Jordan and James Tredwell grabbed a wicket each.
In reply, the home side scored just 99 runs. Only two batsmen in the team managed to make runs in double figures. Eoin Morgan scored 40 (58) and Ian Bell contributed 12 runs (17).
Tillakaratne Dilshan was named the Player of the Match for his performance.
The five match series is level at 1-1. The third ODI will be played at Manchester on May 28, 2014.
