Additional District and Sessions Judge Safdar Ali Bhatti on Monday ordered police to record the statement of the petitioner, seeking registration of a case against actress Meera and her fiancé Captain Naveed for uploading their objectionable video on the internet and tarnishing the repute of an Islamic society.
Shabbir Muhammad had filed a petition through his counsel Amir Saeed Rawn contending that Meera and her fiancé had tarnished the face of Pakistani society by releasing a ‘wicked’ video clip. He said it was a cognisable offence under the Pakistan Penal Code Sections 294. He said that the couple had released the video on YouTube, which was public space. He said that it was un-Islamic even if they were married. He said instead of earning a good name for Pakistan, Meera was maligning it and should be punished for it.
On the other end, Meera’s counsel Ahmed Fahim Bhatti contended that does Islam permit the petitioner to watch such videos on the internet. “On one side, the petitioner claimed that it is an Islamic country and there is no permission to make such videos in Islam while on the other hand the petitioner himself keenly watched such videos on the site (You Tube) which the government has already banned,” he added.
