Corps Commander Karachi, Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar, has been appointed Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) director-general.
In a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the major transfers and postings, two weeks after Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa assumed charge as Chief of Army Staff. According to details, appointments and transfers for several posts within Pakistan Army have been made. For example, former DG Rangers Sindh Lt Gen Bilal Akbar has been appointed Chief of General Staff, and Lt General Rizwan Akhtar Baig (former DG ISI) President of National Defence University.
Lt. Gen. Naveed Mukhtar was the commander of the V Corps based in Karachi.
Lt. Gen. Naveed Mukhtar was commissioned into the Armoured Corps regiment in 1983. He joined the Army in the 68th Pakistan Military Academy course. He has commanded a Mechanised Division. He had also headed the counterterrorism wing of the ISI while serving as deputy director-general.
Lt. Gen. Naveed Mukhtar is a Command and Staff College graduate of Quetta, National Defence University in Islamabad and the United States Army War College in Pennsylvania, USA. At the US Army War College, Mukhtar authored a strategy research project report titled ‘Afghanistan – Alternative Futures and their Implications’ in fulfillment of the requirements of the Master in Strategic Studies Degree.
