The citizens of the metropolis heaved a sigh of relief as the five-day ban on pillion came to a close at midnight.
It should be mentioned here that the Sindh Home Department imposed the ban on recommendation of the police department following a sudden spike in targeted killings with sectarian overtones.
The Sindh government’s decision came a few hours after Jamia Binoria teacher Maulana Masood was shot to death in the Hyderi area of Karachi on September 10. Allama Akbar Kumaili, and former Muttahida Qaumi Movement senator was also gunned down in Azizabad.
It is pertinent to note here that police suggested a ten-day ban; however, the home department curtailed the ban first to nine days and later to five days.
