1965 war hero, Retired Air Marshal and former Governor Sindh Azeem Daudpota passed away at 84.
Daudpota joined Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on December 16, 1955 and leaded PAF squadron in 1965 war against India by demonstrating enormous courage. During the 1965 Indo-Pak war, Azeem Daudpota as Squadron Leader fired missiles on Indian expansion at Atari sector, Wagah and silenced their canons. He was later honored with Sitara-e-Imtiaz for this act of valor.
Daudpota became the unofficial commander of Zimbabwe and in lieu of his services, the then president of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe honored him with the second most prestigious honor of his country “Zimbabwe Order of Merit”.
Moreover, he served as Governor Sindh for short period of time, from October 1999 to May 24, 2000.
Funeral prayers were offered at PAF BASE Faisal after Zuhr prayer on Monday.
Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, Air Chief Marshal Suhail Aman and other dignitaries expressed grief on the passing of the National Hero.
