Two condemned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi militants were hanged at the Karachi Central Jail early morning today after an anti-terrorism court (ATC) decided to uphold its decision to execute them.
Both convicts – Attaullah Arif Qasim and Muhammed Azim Arif Sharif were responsible for the murder of Dr Ali Raza in Karachi’s Soldier Bazaar area in 2001.
During the time of the executions, security in and around the prison was kept very high as it was surrounded by LEA personal.
Following the hanging, bodies of the two men were handed over to their respective families.
Twenty two prisoners have been hanged since the federal government lifted the moratorium on capital punishment in the wake of the Peshawar school attack.
