Pakistan’s television media watchdog has suspended the licenses of two satellite TV channels on top of imposing ban on both a morning show and a talk show respectively.
According to Pakistan Electronic Media Regulation Authority, Geo Entertainment and ARY News will stay off air for 30 and 15 days respectively as penalization.
“Persistent violation of PEMRA rules & regulations by these TV channels forced the authority to take this action”, said a statement issued by the watchdog.
Moreover, the regulator also shut down Geo Entertainment’s morning show, ‘Utho Jago Pakistan’, hosted by Dr Shaista Wahidi, and ARY News’s talk show, ‘Kharra Sach’, anchored by Mubashir Lucman for an indefinite period.
The watchdog did not stop at just closing ‘Kharra Sach’, it also slapped a ban on Mubashir Lucman for flouting the prescribed code of conduct.
The ARY News was also fined Rs10 million as well
